This is a two day workshop that goes from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. It covers all aspects of making a concert tuned Native American Flute from start to finish. It also teaches how to make double flutes and walking stick flutes. All materials including worksheets are provided. Each student will learn all of the details on making flutes including sound hole tips and techniques, fetish construction, shaping, and how to use the math calculation that will allow you to make any mid-range single flutes, double flutes, and walking stick flutes. Cost for all three days is $580.00 per person. Each person is guarenteed at least one concert tuned flute as well as the knowledge required to make flutes on their own from scratch. The class is held in my studio located in Tecumseh MI. I will travel to do this workshop on location, but there are some complicated requirements to doing this. Call Steve Wyse at Spirit Song Flutes for details 517-423-7696.
A one day workshop. This workshop is designed for people who have very little wood working experience. It is also designed for organizations or groups who wish to sponsor a flute making workshop but don't have the woodworking facilities that it takes to lead a group through some of the more complicated aspects of flute making. Each person will be given a flute that has been worked
into it's rough shape. The individual will finish sand and shape the flute. Then, they will learn how to tune each note of the flute to concert pitch. Everyone will be given a lesson on how to play the flute that they have made. Special attention is given to the spiritual aspects of playing flute - the connection between ourselves and the tree, and how we can use that connection to express emotion. The class includes all of the materials necessary to make one flute, and an instruction book along with an audio CD that teaches you how to play the flute. Cost per person is $150.00. Travel fee's are .14 / mile both ways plus one nights hotel accomodations if needed. Maximum class size per day 8 - 10 people.
