Country Music by Steve Wyse
Steve's Bio for country style music:
I was born in Northwest Ohio and raised in a small farming community located in Southeastern Michigan. Growing up, I remember
the Saturday night American Legion dances that my Grandfather liked to attend. I remember listening to the lyrics and thinking how
remarkable it was that a song could capture the spirit of the people that I lived with and loved. For whatever reason, our family
always had trouble expressing ourselves in words, but the music seemed to say just what was in our hearts.
In 1994 during the karaoke craze, I started to develop my country voice and was eventually hired as the lead singer for a local Michigan
band called The Phoenix City Band. I bought a guitar at a pawn shop and practiced nearly 6 hours a day. My friend, mentor, and lead
guitar player Jim Kilpatrick (shown above) gave me tips on playing the guitar, taught me how to lead a band, and how to assume the role of a front man. Soon I started writing songs, and in 1996 I came out with my first album of original music called Dreaming Again. This album turned out to be more of a demo project than a polished album. My voice had not yet "matured", and the studio I used to record did not do a very good job with the mixing. Still, some of the songs were very good, and the project turned out to be a huge learning experience for me. Dreaming Again set the stage for my next project in 2001 - Down Home Dharma. Down Home Dharma is a humorous mix of country, blues, and rockabilly music with lyrics that reflect some aspect of Buddhist thought - "enlightened country" I called it. My latest album is titled "Waltzing With Angels". This CD uses songs both from Dreaming Again and Down Home Dharma. It's designed to satisfy my fans who only like the country style of music.
I currently perform on occasion with The Phoenix City Reunion Band, and also a small band out of Ohio called Crimson Lights. See my
calendar for details.
